2012 Brookville Lake Tournament Story - Season Finale
The 2012 season finale had all the makings of one of the most exciting tournaments in the Indiana Slab Masters History as there were 19 teams mathmatically capable of moving up or moving into the top 10 in the B'n'M Points Race to capture one of the 10 coveted plaques as a top 10 team in the club.
Brookville is notorious for attracting many large boats that create large waves, which make fishing outside of the safety of the idle zone a serious challenge. Add 20mph northwest winds from a severe cold front that passed through on the Friday before the tournament, and chilly winds, and you have some of the worst of the worst conditions available to the crappie fisherman. The fish just would not cooperate with most of our members as weights were way down, and many zeros were registered. Finishing as the 2012 Brookville Lake champions was the team of Donald Licht and John Williams with a total weight of 5.94 lbs. This was an impressive weight on a very tough day. Don and John were fishing live bait on a bare hook under a float in 8' of water in the timber to score their 2nd win of the year. Don and John had 2nd place in the B'n'M Points race sewn up. Congratulations on an excellent season men!
Finishing in 2nd place was the always tough Ohio team of Larry Yates and Doug Allen with a total weight of 5.07 lbs. Doug and Larry were vertical jigging and casting jigs in 12'-16' of water to take home more hardware and locking up 3rd place in the B'n'M Points Race. Doug and Larry have nearly fished every tournament with the Slab Masters this year and have traveled a lot of miiles to do it. These guys are extremely tough competitors and we are proud to call them one of our own! Great Job men on a fantastic season!

Finishing in 4th place and in the top 5 for both of the tournaments they fished with the Slab Masters this year was the team of Tommy Allen and Troy Chandler with a total weight of 4.40 lbs. Tommy and Troy were fishing minnows 2' under a float to capture 4th place. Great job and we hope to see you more next year men!
Rounding out our top 5 teams was our Ted's Big Fish winner and 5th place finishers Damon Phillips fishing with his daughter Maggie with a big fish of .94 lbs and total weight of 4.09 lbs. Damon and Maggie started off spider rigging, but found they had to resort to vertical jigging to finish in the top 5. Damon stated that he used an 1/8th oz. jighead that he bought off the shelf at Westside Bait and Tackle, but did not recall the name of the jig. Damon found the bite to be the best when he tipped his jig with a crappie nibble. Congratulations on your top 5 finish and your classic qualification!
Congratulations to the top 10 teams in the B'n'M Points Race! What a wild season with big record stringers lake after lake. Larry Yates and Doug Allen even broke the all time Indiana Slab Masters record stringer with a 9.98 lb. bag of slabs at Patoka! Now we return to Patoka for our biggest event of the year, the Indiana Slab Masters Classic! Who will be the 2012 Champs? I can't hardly wait!
We have many exciting things coming to the Indiana Slab Masters at this year's Classic. We plan on having the banquet the Friday night before the Patoka Lake classic where we will be serving dinner to all classic qualified members, and awarding the top 10 B'n'M Points teams. We will be having a pre-tournament meeting after dinner, so stay tuned to the website for all the details as we get them.
The 2013 B'n'M Points race is going to have a face lift. It has been very popular with the club and we are thrilled to have a lot of teams compete to be a top 10 team in the club. During the 2013 season we are going to have a small fee to enter your team into the points race and you will have the option of not entering the points race if you know your not going to fish 6 tournaments. This will help with clerical work it takes to track teams. In turn for entering the B'n'M Points race we are going to have Payouts plus plaques to the top-5 finishers in the points race, and have product awards and plaques for teams 6-10. We are working hard to make the Indiana Slab Masters the best club in the state! For those members who saw the trailer in the background of the above photos, we now have a trailer that we keep all our tournament belongings in. This belongs to the club and it came from a lot of hard work at the Sports shows earlier this year. Now we have a few weeks break before it will be time to get serious again! I hope to see you all at Patoka and may the best team win!
